Aeroflot Airlines Ilyushin IL-96

An Aeroflot Ilyushin IL-96, registration RA-96005 performing flight 895 from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Yuzhno Sakhalinsk, was on approach to Yuzhno Sakhalinsk when the crew reported one of their four PS-90 engines was shut down.

The crew continued for a safe landing in Yuzhno Sakhalinsk.

Two dents obviously caused by impact of foreign objects (FOD), possibly birds, were discovered on the leading edge of the right hand wing after landing.

The return flight SU-896 was cancelled.

Passengers reported that near the of top of descent into Yuzhno Sakhalinsk the airplane began shaking and an engine began to emit sparks.

The engine was shut down and the aircraft continued for a safe landing.
